in the light of the new year, most of us are working towards happier and healthier lifestyles, and a huge part of that is eating right. we all know what it feels like to crave those sweet treats from time to time, and i have a feeling that most of us are familiar with that feeling of guilt after indulging in too much unhealthy food. when you crave certain foods, you’re usually looking for certain tastes, and certain vitamins and minerals that you need, which can be found in much healthier alternatives. this list provides a list of healthier alternatives to rather unhealthy choices:
chocolate: you need magnesium- try some fruits, raw nuts and seeds, or even legumes.
sweets: You need chromium, carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, or tryptophan- these can be found in a number of foods, including broccoli, grapes, cheese, dried beans, chicken, fresh fruit, eggs, dairy, nuts, cranberries, and vegetables.
fatty foods and oily snacks: you need calcium- this can be found in dairy, mustard and turnip greens, broccoli, legumes, and sesame.
soda and carbonated drinks: you need calcium- the options are the same as above.
salty foods: you need chloride- this can be found in fish, unrefined sea salt, and (uh) raw goat milk.

other tips:
pre-menstrual cravings (these are killer): you need zinc- great sources of zinc are red meats, seafood, leafy vegetables, and root vegetables.
overeating: you need silicon, tryptophan, or tyrosine- try nuts, seeds, cheese, fruits (preferably orange, green, and red ones), vegetables, or vitamin c supplements, and remember to avoid refined starches.
lack of appetite: you need vitamin b1, Vitamin b3, manganese, and chloride- these can be found in nuts, seeds, beans, meats, seafood, some fruits (like pineapple, blueberries, etc.), and unrefined sea salt.
of course, choices are not limited to these options. there are so many great sources of vitamins and minerals that your body needs, and as long as you’re getting the right nutrients, you have quite a bit of freedom as to where all of those nutrients come from!
… but i mean sometimes a chocolate bar is just really nice.
